How to find the radius of two identical circles?
So, I have a math problem where I need to find the Radius of two identical, overlapping circles. They give me the area of the overlapping area (194 sq feet). Also, the center of one circle is on the overlapping line of the other one… anyone know how to help me? I have looked all over the internet, and I need it for tomorrow!

Quick fix:

1. Press Alt+F2 to open the Run Application dialog.

2. Type gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base. Press Enter. Type your admin password if necessary.

3. Add the following line to the end of the text file: options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dig

4. Click Save. Reboot the laptop.

5. Double-click the Volume Control on the top right hand corner of your desktop.

6. Click the Switches tab. Uncheck the Headphone checkbox.

Now your laptop speakers should be disabled, while sound only plays through your headphones.

Note: I can’t find a way to make it such that it plays from the speakers when I unplug the earphones, perhaps further experimentation is needed. Well, off to the forums.

1. Open the Package Manager (System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager).

2. Locate and install the following by typing them in quick search:

• mplayer
• gnome-mplayer
• mplayer-fonts

3. Start MPlayer (Applications > Sound & Video > GNOME MPlayer).

When playing the video, sometimes you might not see the subtitles, even though it is selected. Press j to cycle through the available subtitles.

I had been toying with the idea of trying out Linux once more, so I have installed the latest version of Ubuntu Linux, the Intrepid. Previously, I had experimented with Red Hat, Fedora and Ubuntu, but have always fallen back on Windows, due to the numerous (technical) difficulties faced in installing certain programs or getting some devices to work with the OS.

So I have decided to document the difficulties that I am about to face in the coming months here, to serve as a reminder to myself and a learning opportunity to anyone who might chance upon this blog.

This has been tested on an HTC Touch Pro. Do backup your contacts and other important information on your Windows machine before attempting this.

Note: You have to at least run Evolution Mail once and set up your personal settings first.

1. Start the Package Manager (under System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager).

2. Locate and install the following packages by typing them in the quick search:

• synce-sync-engine
• synce-kpm
• multisync0.90
• synce-gnomevfs
• opensync-plugin-synce
• opensync-plugin-evolution

Note that when told to make additional required changes, do click Mark.

3. Press Alt+F2 to open the Run Application dialog. Type synce-sync-engine and press Enter.

4. Press Alt+F2 again. Type synce-kpm and press Enter. The SynCE KDE PDA Manager opens.

5. Now plug in the WM6 device to a USB Port. It would automatically be detected and a dialog box would pop up prompting you to create a new Partnership. Type a suitable name (the name of your device would be good enough) and select the information (contacts, calendar, email) which you would like to sync.

6. Once the device has been detected and a new partnership set up, press Alt+F2 and type multisync0.90 and press Enter. The Multisync program opens.

7. Click Add on the top left hand corner. Enter a meaningful name (e.g. HTC sync).

8. Click Add Member and select Evolution 2.X. Click Apply.

9. Repeat step 8, this time selecting Plugin to synchronize with Windows CE device.

10. Click Close. Now, click Refresh.

Congrats, your device should now be synchronizing with Evolution.

Now, the next time you need to sync, run Multisync from Applications > Accessories > Multisync-gui.
